During the 1830s, Jacques-Simon SAJOU started la Maison Sajou, a company devoted to providing tools and patterns for fancy needle work. Mr. Sajou was honored many times over the years. He received many first class medals during the Universal Exhibitions, including a silver medal at the 1889 exhibition. The company sold supplies for all types of work – embroidery, tapestry, guipure, bobbin lace, crochet, weaving, and other needle arts.
In 2005, the dormant brand of SAJOU was re-imagined and brought back to the market by author, textile artist, and collector, Frederique Crestin-Billet. She presents the vintage albums as they were, without edits. Relying on the excellent reputation of the name SAJOU, she has introduced products that celebrate the tradition, using modern production methods and contemporary marketing techniques to make them known and appreciated. Everything evolves from a world that reminds us of the haberdashers of yesteryear – a world of quality and ingenuity.
The centerpiece of the collection is a group of outstanding scissors, all made by hand in small French workshops. Each month, she continues to add new products and projects to this spectacular line. BagSmith is pleased and honored to be the North American distributors of Sajou. |
